Irene Mondo used her Li Tim-Oi Foundation grant to train in adult literacy. As she teaches literacy skills, she also challenges some of the damaging customs in her culture.

Irene lives on the outskirts of Kampala where, a few years ago, she started up an adult literacy centre in her own home. Since then, her husband has built an extension onto their house which now contains the classrooms, a small library and a reading room.
